The partnership that turned poker into the hottest game on the planet might be souring. The Travel Channel, which broadcasts WPT events, is now being sued by the WPT for allegedly interfering with a possible partnership between the World Poker Tour and ESPN to produce a new show called "Professional Poker Tour".
The case has been filed in the supreme court of Los Angeles, and hinges on the fact that World Poker Tour Enterprises wants to develop a new poker show, which they first offered to the Travel Channel, as per their agreement, and then shopped around to ESPN. The sports cable network, which shows the World Series Of Poker, but infamously passed on the World Poker Tour when it first launched, wanted to get involved. The Travel Channel then claimed that they had not yet refused to do the show and sent some provocative letters to both the World Poker Tour and ESPN.
The World Poker Tour television show is incredibly popular and has certainly been a resounding success on every level for the Travel Channel and for WPT Enterprises. This should continue to be a very intriguing story and we will continue to update our readers on the outcome.
