World Poker Tour to Aid Breast Cancer Research
|
August 18 - The World Poker Tour (WPT) has announced that it will help to
raise both awareness and money for the research into the prevention and treatment
of breast cancer.
The announcement from the WPT comes ahead of the Ladies' Night event in Los
Angeles at the Bicycle Casino on August 19th this year, which will include a poker
tournament, an online auction and various other methods of donation.
On the evening of the 19th, the Bicycle Casino will be the venue for a gala World
Poker Tour cocktail party which will give the guests and VIPs the chance to take
part in a live auction, with proceeds going toward cancer research. This event will
also mark the start of the Ladies' Poker Party Open which will result in the final
players for the WPT Ladies' Night IV.
Last Friday saw the online auction kick off, which features among other things 12 box
seat tickets at an LA Clippers basketball game, 4-day spa gift certificates and a seat
at the 2006 World Poker Tour Celebrity Invitational in Los Angeles.
The proceeds generated by the auction, which ends on Tuesday September 5th, will go
towards the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The Komen foundation has invested
an impressive $630 million in breast cancer education, research, treatment and education
programs since it inception.
Said Robyn Moder of World Poker Tour Enterprises, Inc, 'We are very pleased that the Komen
Foundation has joined forces with World Poker Tour Ladies' Night in the universal and much-needed
fight against breast cancer.'
