June 23 - The founder and Chairman Emeritus of the World Poker Association (WPA),
Jesse Jones, has embarked on a search for a new board of directors for the
association after its current board handed in its resignation.
The move came only two months after the board of directors was sworn in and
as a result of the chairman of the WPA, Wendeen Eolis, stepping down from her
role.
According to a statement issued by the Las Vegas based WPA, Eolis decided to
resign after she was offered a lucrative role on the campaign of one of the
presidential candidates in the United States. "We thank Wendeen for her valuable
contributions," said Jesse Jones. "Her resignation is warmly accepted and we
wish her success in her new role."
Eolis has been extremely active in shaping the poker advocacy group since she
was elected a year ago. She developed the association's Code of Ethics and
revised its internal affairs to create a more productive working agenda. Eolis
was also responsible for bringing information of the WPA's activities to the
general public through the formation of a website.
No reasons were given in the statement issued by the WPA as to why the entire
board of directors had resigned in light of Eolis' own resignation. "Discussions
between outgoing board members and other key contacts within the poker community
will now begin," said Jones. "Our primary goal is to invite additional talent to
represent and advance the interests of poker players around the globe."
"We have a unique opportunity to form a strong board with a united vision, to
promote poker as a sport by advocating professionalism and uniform rules and
standards of conduct and help to create increased economic opportunities for
players worldwide," explained Jones. "We thank our members for their continued
support and look forward to an exciting year in shaping the policies and
practices of international poker."
