WSOP Main Event For 2010 Is Underway

July 8 - “Suffle up and Deal” opened Day 1A on 5 July 2010 of the WSOP Main Series of Poker event. 1,125 Hopeful participants, each holding 30,000 chips were in attendance, all with one goal in mind – to qualify for the second round. 766 players of these participants accomplished this goal and have made it through to the next level with Corwin Cole taking the lead with 228,200 chips, Dwyen Ringbauer coming in second and Michael “the Grinder” Mizrachi third.

For the fourth year running Actor/comedian Ray Romano was back for yet another try at the WSOP title and joining him was fellow actor/ comedian David Alan Grier, music mogul Rene Angelil and NBA star Shawn Marion. Out of these four men, only David Alan Grier managed to qualify to make made it through to the second day.

Day 1B, brought 1,489 participants including names such as Drost, Levy and Dodds all ready for action. After this gruelling session, 1,101, including names such as Dan Harrington, Gavin Griffin, Brandon Cantu, Johnny Lodden, Phil Laak, Dan Kelly, Jon Turner, Gavin Smith, and George Lind qualified for the next round with James Danielson coming out on top with a comfortable lead. James Danielson holds 201,050 chips against the 167,300 chips held by his nearest rival Fillippo Candio.

The 2009 WSOP Main Event Winner, Joe Cada opened the Day1C game and names such as Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, Dennis Phillips, Scotty Nguyen and Chad Brown are all in attendance. It is reported that this game is most likely to produce the biggest field yet, with over 1,200 hopefuls having already registered by the early afternoon.

With a 31% increase of participants since last year, WSOP is notably the most popular, lucrative and most prestigious Poker game of the year.
