April 29 - Three months ago the outlook for online gambling in general was bleak and unclear at best for online poker. Publicly traded companies like Party Gaming were treated like pariahs and the thought that Yahoo would launch a real-money online poker room would have seemed delusional.
Now we're almost done with the cruelest month (April to all you non-Wasteland types out there) and those big brand names can't embrace online poker quickly enough.
Welcome to Internet time, which moves with enough celerity to make a dog's life seem glacial. Yahoo's UK arm has launched a poker room that will become part of the Boss Poker Network. If you live in the USA you cannot play there, but still this repesents a huge shot in the arm for the online poker cause.
The Boss Network and the other skins already on there must be beside themselves with delight. This is the second huge corporate brand to join the network following the rise of Virgin Poker.
I have never played with this software but I'd be tempted to give it a try now because it must be teeming with fish.
The future suddenly looks bright for online gambling, both in the United States to some extent and definitely throughout Europe. There is billions of Euros on the table, or virtual felt to be precise, and it won't be long before other community-based Internet companies wake up and realize that they can grab some of that loot!
