Young People Play Online Poker! Shock! Horror!
|
The media frenzy about America's precious, precious youth playing online poker is about to hit, as soon as the media frenzies regarding evolution (crackpot theory!) and avian flu (the birds! the birds kill!) are over. According to the latest meaningless statistics, more young Americans play online poker once a week than drink, smoke, or do drugs combined!!! Who thinks up these surveys let alone has the sheer gall to publish them as "fact"?
If America worried more about kids under 21 being sent to war and cared less about the fact that college kids are "gambling" thanks to online poker, then America might be a little closer to being as great a nation as it thinks it is. But the sad truth is that America remains a Puritanical, small-minded country where online poker is considered indistinguishable from online gambling, and where it is "news" that young people are being "lured" to play poker. How dangerous! Maybe they'll blow their college tuition, become one of America' forgotten underclass, and be forced to join the legions of impoverished youngsters who get suckered into joining the military - talk about being trapped into a sucker play.
The only way anyone ever learned anything is via experience, and most poker pros would be happy to charge for that experience. Young people need to learn that poker is not an easy way to make a living; it's a hard way to grind out a living. That's the sum total of our public service - now sign up, all you undergrads, and donate that book money to your elders and betters! (Nothing puts a kid on tilt more than a condescending attitude directed towards him, except maybe if you let him man the artillery gun in a tank.)
