Chris 'Jesus' Ferguson - Poker Legend

Chris Ferguson, known to one and all in the poker world as Jesus, is one of the most distinctive players around, both for his unique appearance and analytical excellence at the table. The long hair and accompanying beard played their part in earning him that particular sobriquet, but his miraculous poker play probably contributed to the nickname "Jesus" as well. There was a time, back in 2000, when it could easily have been argued that Ferguson was the top poker player in the world. Since then he has cut back on the number of poker tournaments he plays in, and poker is just one of his many interests.
Chris Ferguson has a PhD and he isn't afraid to use it at the poker table. His knowledge of Game Theory and statistics, combined with his eerie total recall memory of cards makes him a poker titan. He is regarded as one of the very best seven-card Stud and Omaha High-Low players in the world, where memory and pot odds respectively are key factors.
His most memorable moment to date came at the World Series Of Poker Main Event in 2000, which he won. That tournament was written about with great skill by Jim McManus in his wonderful book, "Miracle On 5th Street", which chronicled McManus' own remarkable efforts to make it to the final table in that event even though he was supposedly "dead money". At the final table Ferguson ended up heads up against another poker legend, TJ Cloutier. In the unforgettable final hand Ferguson held A9 and was dominated by Cloutier's AQ. Cloutier was all-in and the flop came 2K4. The turn brought another K. Cloutier looked for all the world as though he would win the hand or at worst split the pot (if a 2 or 4 came). Chris "Jesus" Ferguson had only 3 outs or a 6% chance of spiking a 9 and winning it all. Do you believe in miracles? The 9 came making Jesus the king of poker for 2000.
All told, Ferguson has now won 5 WSOP bracelets, with 2 of his titles in the Omaha High-Low format. His demeanour at the table is circumspect and inscrutable. He wears dark glasses and a cowboy hat pulled down low, and is very even-tempered. What makes Ferguson a great poker player is his memory and ability to apply probability theory to every hand. He is also an avid swing dancer and magician but we won't hold either of those things against the Jesus of poker.
