May 27 - PokerStars pro, Daniel Negreanu expressed his long-standing opinion that the Cereus Poker Network represents a black mark against the online poker industry after their handling of their latest security problem was revealed.
Cereus is the sixth largest poker room, however Negreanu sees this latest problem as simply being a continuation of past problems.
In his blog, Negreanu stated: "This company is just a bad apple in our poker community and I couldn't imagine supporting them in any way."
Negreanu continued that he could not understand how the two faces of the network, Annie Duke and Phil Hellmuth can stand by silently and continue to endorse the network despite what had happened in the past and what had recently happened.
Negreanu's blog continued: "I said this ten years ago, and since then I've only been proved correct by the huge scandal, and then again recently when they were aware of the security hole, but chose to keep the site up and running. If you know your software can be easily hacked, isn't that the precise moment where you shut down for maintenance and fix the issue?"
The recent event that Negreanu is referring to in his blog is an incident where an industry watchdog group hacked into the system's security. This allowed them access to player information under certain conditions.
Despite the major security breach, Cereus chose to deal with the problem while allowing continued play, instead of shutting down their sites as soon as they learned of the breach.
Ultimate Bet (UB) and
Absolute Poker are two online
poker rooms that make up the Cereus Poker Network.
