New Poker Movie All In Attracts Attention

Author: Renee

June 19 - A new two hour doco-film has attracted good reviews at its premiere in Las Vegas, and has been hailed as the most objective looks at the growth of poker in modern day US that has ever been created.

All In: The Poker Movie, was launched in Vegas last week to coincide with the World Series of Poker event, allowing over 300 of the top names in the industry to attend.

Douglas Tirola has done an excellent job traveling chronologically across a modern date line, pin pointing some of the highlights in the poker world to show how the game has evolved into one of the most popular pastimes in the United States today.

Online poker definitely has a strong presence in the film, showing how this lucrative branch of the game began with classic sites and showing important developments in the industry such as the Ultimate Bet/Absolute Poker cheating scandals.

Chris Moneymaker's win at the WSOP Main Table event is highlighted in the film and is hailed as one of the turning points in the US poker industry.

The film shows how a $40 wager turned Moneymaker into a truly modern day Cinderella story, after he won one of the biggest prizes in recent history at a land based poker tournament. As a result, millions took up the game online, hoping to become the next Moneymaker.

Of course, the poker movie is not without its faults. According to some critics, there were a few things that could be improved on, such as the mention of the growing European online poker industry - perhaps linking this fact to the United States by showing that the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) played a major part in the growth.

Also, not everyone was in agreement that the UIGEA 'effectively ended the online poker boom'. While it took some time for the industry to reorganize after the UIGEA, it is now booming once more, according to many industry experts.
